Based on the recommendation from the Governor, schools will remain closed until Friday, May 1st. Students will continue to work on NTID lessons during this time. Schools will be posting information regarding packet pickups and drop offs in the next few days.

Meals will continue to be provided during this time.

Every 10 years the federal government conducts a population count of everyone in the United States. The census is a valuable tool for improving communities across the country. If your community members don’t respond, your community may not get the funding it needs and deserves. In the 2010 Census Jackson County only had a 69% return rate on the last census. It is important that everyone understand the importance of the census.

A complete count of everyone living in your community and county has tremendous benefits for your community and county.

1) Accurately determine the number of representatives each state has in Congress

2) Used as the basis for distributing more that $675 billion in federal funds annually to states, counties and communities to support: fire departments, hospitals ,healthcare,

schools, roads, public works, public assistance and housing, infrastructure and other vital local government and community programs.

3) Are used to determine the allocation of Title I funds, which provide assistance to local educational agencies. It is also used as a basis for funding distribution for the National School Lunch Program.

Counting young children in the 2020 Census – count everyone once – An estimated 5% of kids under the age of five (5) were not counted on the 2010 Census. Approximately, 1 million young children were not counted (the highest of any age group).

The Census form takes about ten (10) minutes to complete, and it can now be filled out online (www.census.gov) or over the phone, in addition to the paper form by mail. Census takers will also continue to collect the information in person.

The Census Bureau is required by law to protect any personal information that is collected and keep it strictly confidential.

The 2020 Census goal is to count everyone once, only once and in the right place on April 1, 2020 (Census Day).

Upon recommendation of the Governor, we will continue our school closure through Friday, April 17, 2020.  We will be working to prepare additional NTI lessons for our students.  

Food Service will continue to provide meals through Friday, April 17, 2020.  Updates will be posted on our district website, Facebook, etc.

As always the district is concerned about the health and safety of our students and staff. District and school administrators have worked on developing a plan for school closure due to COVID-19. As of today our plan is as follows but please understand that this plan could change depending on guidance from the governor, the health department, or the Kentucky Department of Education.

March 16th--April 1st will be NTI Days for students. They will not be reporting to school but will be working on assignments from home.

Students have already received lessons for Days 4-5. We are asking that parents stop by school on Monday, March 16th from 1:00 PM until 6:00 PM to pick up their child's packet. If you are unable do do this, please contact your school to make other arrangements.

Spring Break has been moved from April 9th and 10th to April 2nd and 3rd. These WILL NOT be NTI days.

The district is awaiting guidelines from the USDA regarding feeding students. We will update when that plan has been finalized.

School buildings will be closed to the public beginning Wednesday, March 18th in order to sanitize the buildings.

Again, please understand that this plan is evolving. Expect more information to be posted on Monday, March 16th

Yearbooks will be on sale in the school store until the end of the school year; however, March 30 is the last day to get your name on it. The cost is $45 plus an additional $5 to get your name engraved. You must pay the full amount if you want your name on it.

JANUARY SCHOLARSHIP BULLETIN

Mrs. Coffey will be accepting baby pictures next week for the yearbook. There is a limited space so only the first 50 will be accepted.

Students will be getting a letter from Balfour about ordering yearbooks. You may order from them online, with the order form, or see Mrs. Coffey at The School Store.

The school store now has hoodies for sale.

JCHS received a 4 star ranking based on the state's 2018-19 accountability system, which is awesome!!!!  The school is ranked 38th out of the 226 high schools in Kentucky.  In the 13th region, which has a total of 17 high schools, JCHS ranked 3rd.  We are very proud of the hard work that our students and staff put forth to accomplish this achievement and we will continue to strive for improvement in all areas.  Looking at the preliminary results, our transition readiness score may be in the top 10 of the state again.  Based on this great news, on Wednesday, October 2nd, there will be a school-wide celebration that includes inflatables, movies and food.  A special thank you goes out to all of "General Nation" and it is a great day to be a General!!!!!!!!!!!

Dear Parent/Guardian:

Working in partnership with parents to provide open communication and to ensure the safety of our students and staff, I wanted to inform you of a situation that occurred at the Jackson County High School today.  A student found a threatening message on a bathroom stall and reported it to a school administrator.  After an in-depth administrative investigation that included the school’s resource officer, a student confessed and the appropriate disciplinary measures were taken.  At no time were students or staff at risk.  As always,the welfare and safety of our students and staff is our top priority.  If you have any questions or concerns, you can call Brian Harris at (606) 287-7155 or email him at brian.harris@jackson.kyschools.us.

Enrollment packets for the 2019-2020 JCHS school year:

There are 3 different packets depending the grade you are entering. 

• New Student Packet:  This is for any student that has never been in Jackson County Public Schools, or hasn’t been enrolled in JCPS in the last 2-3 years.
• Freshmen Packet:  This is for any incoming freshmen that attended JCMS last year.
• Upperclassmen Packet:  This is for any returning JCHS student that will be enrolled in grades 10-12 this coming school year.

We have tried to cut down the number of pages parents/guardians will need to fill out this year.  There is a cover sheet that explains what each form is for.  We cannot accept forms that are from other schools in the district.  Our forms are specifically for Jackson County High School students.
